Hydraulic holding devices have opened new means to handle the most intricate clamping situations thoughtfully. On one hand these reduce cost and improve quality of machining and inspection, while on the other hand, these solve the most complicated clamping problems.

There is no damage to the clamping surface, though the clamping force is a maximum of 5kg/mm2. Furthermore, the concentric holding design innate property provides minimum TIR – under 5 microns. Simple actuation reduces mounting and dismounting.
Hydraulic holding devices have no loose components (collects or liner) making pressure coolant applications on chucks direct and efficient. Flexibility in design and application of hydraulically controlled holding devices lies in the fact that they can be adopted to perform any machining operation like finish turning, grinding, boring, drilling, gear cutting, gear finishing, etc. Their design can be extended to clamp on blind bores. Splinted bores could be located on the major diameter, minor diameter of pitch-line diameter.

Hydraulic expanding arbors and chucks could be applied successfully in inspection of components accurately. Many inspection requirements are possible by mechanical means could be solved by using hydraulic devices. The greatest advantages of these devices are that these don’t involve any additional skill and require low maintenance cost.
MACHINE ADAPTABILITY
The products of our company are designed to suit various machine spindles, fixture arrangements and inspection setups. Virtually unlimited in adaptation, Concept hydraulically controlled arbor & chucks are arranged with ISO, Morse and Brown & Sharpe tapers for most spindle mounting. The range of flange mountings is available for direct faceplate application.

OPERATION
The basic principle of operation comprises of expanding or contracting a thin walled spring steel sleeve within the elastic limits of the metal by means of hydraulic pressure. In so doing, the sleeve expands or contracts uniformly about the axial centerline of the work piece resulting in absolute centering and positive clamping.

Each holding device comprises of a ported body with a self-contained hydraulic system, a piston and a steel sleeve.

The piston may be actuated manually by alien key or power actuated by any power source available in the shop floor. The piston is advanced by clockwise rotation of the actuator screw. The hydraulic fluid is displaced in the piston chamber and moved through the parts exerting pressure on the steel sleeve. This equalised internal pressure is contained within the hydraulic seals compressing/expanding the sleeve radically about the work piece or tool. The sleeve when further compressed/expanded conforms to the shape of the work piece or tool providing accurate centering and maximum holding power. This clamping force can assume very high values since the inner wall of the expansion sleeve is many times greater than the face of the piston. Counter clockwise rotation of the actuator screw releases the hydraulic pressure and relaxes the sleeve for unloading and loading of the tool or work piece.
